Westbury Ensign

The Ensign was designed by ETW as a 10cc petrol engine for model hydroplanes. This example was built by in 1949 Mr John Street (Australia) for glow plug ignition, although he made provision for the ignition points and timer assembly as can bee seen from the turned down section and cut-out opening on the front of the crankcase nose. The engine featured a very thin wall steel liner with a "slipper" type cast iron piston with twin deflector cut-outs, twin fore-aft transfers, and RRV induction. Note the nicely machined, tapered fins on the head of John's engine and the revised, central location for the glow plug.
